we used to chant of ho chi minh
and mao-tse-tung tripped off our tongue
how gaily we rejected sin
when we were young.....

They met in a playground, in a taxi, in a bar at five past ten,
he was nearly peaking, she had never been as low as she was then,
he made up a story that was twice as good as anything
and she explained the reasons so it seemed like it was happening.
Johnny was a dreamer, he lay back on his back and lied,
he thought he was important, since he thought he really could be if he tried,
either she believed him, or she knew more than she cared to tell,
when two people get together heaven’s never very far from hell.
Johnny built a castle and they filled the castle up with bills,
because she was a princess they got credit for the wine and pills,
when the weather worsened and the paper walls began to leak
they got into their Bentley and they drove through 15 countries in a week.
She picked up her trenchcoat and she found herself another peg,
he looked at her departing, the goose that laid the golden eggs,
they threw away their crutches and then they found they had no legs,
but these things run in cycles, and it’s easier to steal than beg.

Here’s another number
We’re just looking to survive it
In among the dead-ends and the dried-up river beds
There must be a garden
With something still alive in it….
Open your guitars
Is there anything in there?
Is there anything left to sing about?
Let’s let loose a little,
Let’s let loose a little bit of this….

cloud cuckoo
02:46
|

the fat south east
walled with money
smear their walls
in rape honey
give us a slice
of what you waste
but then we find
it has no taste.
I am disgusted, I am impressed
you’ve got a throwaway body
in your cuckoo’s nest.
the gilded lawns
the gravelled drives
the gleaming cars
the shining lives
I am bewildered, but I do understand
these are the normal things
in cloud cuckoo land.

into the golden

Life flows open
into the golden
clocks lie broken
spring’s unwinding
here in our heaven
there’s a year unfolding
that’s the reason that the
sap is rising.
Walls are wheels the world’s unweaving birds have sung
and the trees are leaving.

give myself away

my heart's a useless trinket
you can't keep it it's a stolen toy
anybody has it
you would think it had no memory
these moments when i give myself away (x 2)
love moves as the eyes move
i could prove it but i've closed my eyes
look how i've abused it
i'm a party to its mystery
these moments when i give myself away (x 2)
i try to keep my heart in chains
restrain it and retrain my tongue
i'm afraid i'll take you all in
i could fall in love with anyone
these moments when i give myself away (x4)

The spirit of free enterprise
A muddy grave, a shiny trap
The heart of it’s a brutal greed
The heart of it was always broken
Go down to the heart of it
Sold for scrap to South Korea
Let us sail in to the new dawn with our bow doors open
Let us sail in to the new dawn with our bow doors open
The spirit of free enterprise
Was just a box for carting freight
When water came in through the doors
It just rolled over with the weight
The lights went out, the people drowned
The television cameras came
And then they pumped the water out
And looked for someone they could blame
The spirit of free enterprise
A deadly game of sweat and fear
The heart of it’s a lethal creed
The heart of it’s a worthless token
Go down to the heart of it,
Sell your soul as a career
Let us sail in to the new dawn with our bow doors open
Let us sail in to the new dawn with our bow doors open

all for you

stars come out at night,
every night it’s new,
just to be polite,
all for you.
trees grow from the ground,
up into the blue,
thoroughly profound,
all for you.
though entirely mad
it’s completely true,
things you always had
all for you.

brahma chop Lewes, UK
brahma chop were an improvisatory alternative rock band based in lewes, UK. they were noisier than they thought. their recordings were funded by the heroic 'hopewell records' of new jersey. they pretended that they were the promotional tool of a brazilian meat-products company. this was not true. they had a strong rhythmic base- 4 of the 6 played drums- and 2 contrasting guitarists. ... more
